A
good friend of mine, told me that
the widow
of a Ham radio operator, asked them if they could sell
her husband's Ham radio equipment ? Then she told me
that they advertised the equipment on E-Bay, and apart
from most of the 'home-brew stuff, Sold it all through
E-Bay for over £3,000 ! Quickly !!!
I have no idea what they had for sale, but it proved
a point to me, which I have mentioned before, that by
advertising on E-Bay, there are several thousands of
people exposed to what you have for sale ! Look at our
own club site , for example ! The last six day report
that Mike sent out to us, was well over half a million
hits' So if any of us decide to die, then I honestly
believe that we who are left, will be able to sell his
Ham Radio gear through E-Bay. This way, it will have a
tremendous exposure to potentially millions of people
world wide.
We may not have the potential buyers living around us,,
as some of you know, who tried to sell Radio equipment
for a Ham friend who passed away. I know that myself,
because I handled two such sales since I have been back
in Bridgend. In the U.S. in Grants Pass where I lived
for 26 years, the radio club as a group,
normally did the selling and of course, the
listing of the equipment, as in my experience, none of
the widows, had any idea what was what ! So while I was
still in the States, I catalogued all my radio
equipment, just in case !
Then when I came back home to Wales, I started to
accumulate more 'toys' again. Remembering how hard it
was to find and list all the Ham
's equipment after they passed on ! I then
proceeded to catalogue all my Ham Radio equipment, so
that my widow, or whoever was left and responsible for
selling my Ham Radio stuff, would not have the same
problem.
So what I have done, (I did this 6 or 7 years ago, not
recently,) got a few cards of those small ½" round
sticky back labels. Then every bit of my Ham Equipment
has one of these little round labels on them somewhere,
they can be seen when the item is picked up. Then on
each label, I placed a number from 1 to 100, with each
piece of equipment they are on, having a number, which
corresponds to a like number in the item sheets I have
stored along with my will. In addition to just listing
the item, I also have entered either the initial cost to
me of that Item, or what I thought it was worth at the
time I made the list out. Of course, that is not correct
now, but at least, it gives someone an idea of what it
will be worth when I'm a 'silent key'.
You may have other ideas, if you have, why not share
them with us so that we can post it on our website, so
others can benefit from it as well?
